Cannabis Laws in China
With the exception of hemp for industrial use and some types of medicine, cannabis is illegal in China. Cannabis has historically been used in China for Taoist rituals, as well as for fiber, seeds, traditional medicine, and other purposes.
According to the Law on Public Security Administration Punishments, marijuana smokers will be imprisoned for 10 to 15 days and fined a maximum of 2,000 yuan if they are found in possession of the drug. However, China has never outlawed the growing of hemp, a form of industrial cannabis.

Despite the fact that cannabis is banned in Hainan, the underground market remains quite active. To find out more, enquire locally—possibly among valets or bartenders, or in nightclubs.
